Why use this imprint?
Feathered Pen, LLC
‘The purpose of the ISBN is to establish and identify one title or edition of a title from one specific publisher and is unique to that edition, allowing for more efficient marketing of products by booksellers, libraries, universities, wholesalers and distributors.’
As a publishers with an imprint, Feathered Pen is mostly used for marketing my books and those that sign with Feathered Pen.
If you want to self-publish your book and market it under an imprint or company name, then it makes sense to own your own ISBN. Committing to an imprint helps some authors to take their own writing more seriously as a business enterprise. When I started to self-publish my own books I wanted to go to the next step and named myself as publisher, but as I started to work in other genres, and to help friends self-publish their own books via my distribution platform, I felt it time to become Feathered Pen, LLC and create an imprint.
Finally, whether or not you publish under an imprint, you always, as the originator of the work own the copyright, not a company name or trading-as imprint. Example, if you use Amazon KDP, your book might say “independently published” or “Amazon original story.” And this will make your book look more “self-published.” Many of your readers won’t notice, won’t care or won’t know what any of it means, but some readers will and many potential media sources will and like podcasts that you might want to interview on they might look down upon self-published titles. So here I am. Let your journey start here,
