Brokenness is Your Greatest Ministry
Sis, let’s talk about something most people avoid: brokenness.
We live in a world that says, “Hide your scars. Keep it together. Don’t let them see you fall apart.” But God says something entirely different: “Bring it to Me, and I’ll use it for My glory.”
This isn’t a pity party. This is about redemption, healing, and discovering that your most powerful ministry may be hiding in your most painful story.
And if you’d rather listen to this conversation, I go even deeper in this week’s Reveal Podcast Episode #96: Brokenness as Your Greatest Ministry — because sometimes you need to hear it spoken straight to your heart.
What Is Brokenness, Really?
Brokenness isn’t just about trauma. It’s those seasons when life shatters your expectations, your confidence, or even your faith.
It can look like:
- A painful divorce
- Betrayal from someone you trusted
- Losing a loved one
- Financial collapse
- A health diagnosis you never saw coming
- Rejection or abandonment
For me, one of my deepest seasons of brokenness came after a betrayal I never expected that ended in divorce, the end of marriage and end of friendship. It left me feeling angry, empty, questioning my worth, and full of hate for the husband and mistress while wondering if I’d ever heal. But God met me there — right in the middle of the mess.
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” – Psalm 34:18
My spirit was so crushed I felt beyond repair, even for the Lord. Friend, brokenness often feels like the end. But in God’s hands, it’s just the beginning of something beautiful.
Why God Uses Brokenness
If we’re honest, we’d rather skip the painful seasons. But God sees our brokenness differently. Here’s why He often uses it as a platform for ministry:
1. It Makes Us Dependent on Him
When we’ve reached the end of ourselves, we stop relying on our own strength. We lean into Him for every breath.
“My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.” – 2 Corinthians 12:9
2. It Builds Compassion for Others
Your pain creates a well of empathy you wouldn’t have otherwise. People are drawn to those who truly understand their struggles.
3. It Gives God the Glory
When your life turns around, people will know it was Him, not you. Brokenness creates a before-and-after story that points straight to Jesus.
How to Let God Turn Your Brokenness into Ministry
Turning your pain into purpose doesn’t happen overnight. It’s a journey — and here are four biblical steps to start. This is where I started and lived one step at a time.
1. Bring It Into the Light
Stop hiding it. God can’t heal what we keep in the dark. Healing begins with honesty before Him and, when you’re ready, with safe people who can walk with you.
2. Allow Healing to Happen
Don’t rush the process. Ministry from brokenness comes after you’ve let God tend to the wound. Remember, scars are proof that healing has taken place.
3. Share Your Story With Purpose
You don’t have to tell every detail, but be real about what God has done. You never know whose chains might fall because you dared to speak up.
4. Stay Humble in the Process
This isn’t about building a platform — it’s about building the Kingdom. Keep pointing people to the Healer, not the healed.
The Beauty of Scars
Here’s the truth-Your scars are proof that God heals.
They are the testimony that you didn’t just survive — you overcame by the blood of the Lamb and the word of your testimony (Revelation 12:11).
The enemy wants you to believe your brokenness disqualifies you. But in God’s economy, it’s often your qualifier for the very ministry He’s called you to.
Your Next Step
This week, I want to challenge you. Ask God to show you one person who needs to hear part of your story. Then, when He opens the door, speak life into them. You might be surprised at how your past pain becomes someone else’s present hope.
And if you’re in the middle of brokenness right now, you don’t have to walk this road alone. That’s why I created Beyond the Pew Coaching— to help women just like you see the beauty God can bring from the ashes.
